Game Vision Statement

The Ruby Foest In this blog post i will speak about my ideas plans and research for my game "The ruby forest" i will be doing this through a game vision statement. Starting with how i decided on my game's name. As mentioned in my previous game idea blog post i discussed how in this game the goal of the player is to collect enough coins in order to buy the princess a ring. After reading the comments on my game idea post, Ellen advised what if instead of the prince winning coins he wins fragments of dimonds to build the ring. I loved this idead and this gave me the idea of a ruby ring. I also mentioned how the setting of my game will be set in an enchanted forest, and so from there the idea of, 'The Ruby Forest' just came to mind and i like how its simple and not too fussy. Introduction : The Ruby Forest is a single player game. The game will be suitibale for all age groups it will be designed for a computer but with the hopes of in the future being developed for phone and android use also. The game involves the player (The Prince) to overcome obstacles set in an enchanted forest in order to win ruby fragments to build a ring and win the princess. This game is fun exciting and fast paced. The game is designed for all abilitys and ages. Backround: In my previous game idea research blog post i briefly disscussed how the 'The Ruby Forest' was inspired by a childhood favorite game my brother and i would always play Super Mario's this game has a similar layout and design concept and is deffinitly where i took my inspiration from. I also when researching and planning my game idea looked on the App store on my phone to see was there similar games on the market so i cold get an idea of my competitors. When researching i didnt find many games that were too similar other then " Castle Story " This game involved the player to build a castle filled with villans princesses and princes i looked at the game and play design of this game for inspiration or any similarites when creating my game. Description: When you first enter The Ruby Forest the player will be met bye a young boy dressed a scroll and message deliverer. The boy will then begin to speak to the prince through a speach bubble and tell him what the game intales and what he must do in order to complete that level. The prince must start by following the trale of sticks leading towards the dark and gloomy forest. Inside the forest the prince will have company who or what that is he does not know. The prince must stay strong brave and aware of his suuroundings as hes never quite sure what obstacle he might face next. There wont be any time limit the player has to complete but the game will be filled with obstacles so it will feel quite fast paced. The prince will have to overcome obstacles such as, crossing a river that has no crossing the prince will have to use his surroundings and get creative to find a way through, there will also be a number of falling trees and spooky animal chases that the prince must loose to win another uby fragment. Key Features: 1 - Simple easy controls : The game will be easy to controll making it all ages and ability's freindly and to make sure the game is enjoyable and easy and doesnt involove a massive amount of concintration, Personally for myself i get bored very easy and i dont like over complicated stuff, so i deffinitly intend for my game to be user friendly and easy and i would like for it to be fully suitible for the laptp and one day phone use also. 2 - The Game Play: As a breifly mentioned above i want the game to be slow and not oveerly complicated but on the flip side knowone wants a boring game so i intend to have the game filled with action to overshadow the slow atmosphere. 3 - Music : I plan for my game to have music as i persoanlly like haveing visuals and sounds i think it makes as a user the experience much better. I plan to have the song stay the same the hole way through so i must find a balance in what i choose to insure it is not repetitive. I do plan for the music to match the dark and gloomy vibe of the forest. Genre: The genre of this game im not even sure what i would put it under as i deffinitly want a dark enchanted feeling to the forest which would give an almost thriller genre but as i mentioned i want the game to be suitible to all ages so i dont want there to be scary feel to it either i guess i would just describe the genre as exciting and gloomy and fast paced im sure as i create the game i will get a better understanding the grnrei willput the game under. Platforms: The game concept is designed to be played on a PC but i do think the controlls will be easy enugh that it could easily be adapted for mobile o android use also. Concept Board - I decided to make a concept bored using miro so i could visualise the ideas i have for my game.

  1. Hi Cliodhna! Your game sounds really good and I'm sure there's loads of assets that have custom made forests and characters ready for you to use as well as scripts. I think your game is original and I can imagine it in my head. I made the stupid decision to do a 3D sphere game so I have to make obstacles move and make jump pads so it's a pretty frustrating thing. - Anna Zurawska
